At the present, Alejandro is developing two projects as a bandleader. First, the Alejandro Zuleta Vallenato Collective, that performs regularly at Terraza 7train NYC, in which he presents an exciting journey into this beautiful Colombian folklore. Very consciously translating the original accordion repertoire to the piano, filled with beautiful songs, contagious rhythms, true to the spirit of “La Parranda” and spiced up by creative and engaging spaces of solo and collective improvisation.

Second, the AZ JAZZ/IMRPOV PROJECT, in which Zuleta, joined by very talented musicians from the NYC scene, explores the idiom of improvised music drawing inspiration from diverse sources such as his own compositions, Afro-Colombian rhythm, avant-garde Jazz, free improvisation and live electronic music. He has been developing an electronic interface to process the piano by the hand of Dafna Naphtali one of New York’s most relevant voices on the electronic music scene. These two projects will be recorded in the spring of 2012.
