Departing from the energy and diversity of Colombian and Latin American rhythms Gate 4 improvises over all sorts of unusually
crafted tunes. Dissonant Curralos, minimalistic Cumbias, power Chacareras, cool Bambucos and many more of the like, serve
the band as a way of creating musical and sonic atmospheres of rare beauty. A sound that seamlessly fusses the raw groves and
profoundness of South American popular music with lush harmonies and delicate melodies; conserving the balance between composition and improvisation.
The group is conceived and held together by Colombian pianist, composer and producer Alejandro Zuleta. With Gate 4, Zuleta
combines the talents of drummer Franco Pinna, bassist Carlos Mena and saxophonist Julio Botti. Its members are seasoned players who have performed extensively in recording sessions and venues throughout the world.
This Sunday I will be conducting a workshop about Vallenato music as a part of a workshop series by Folk Colombia. We will learn and share a lot about this beautiful Colombian traditional music.
